Vail Hosts the America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament
On September 15 – 18, 2011, Vail, Colorado will host the America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament. Headquarters and lodging for the event will be at Evergreen Lodge, Vail (800-284-8245), which is easily accessible from I-70 West.
Past teams have been hosted from around the world. Youth and adaptive teams will be included in the competition, with Bred Befus returning to coach the Colorado Youth Team. Scheduled to attend for adaptive competition are Para-Olympian Sarah Will, Tred Barta, and from Canada, Lawrence Euteneier of theblindfishingboat.com.
The annual event is a 5-person, 16-team catch and release fly fishing competition. “We are the 3rd largest Fips-Mouche style fly fishing tournament in the world with 80 Anglers competing for 3 days. The America Cup promotes aquatic nuisance species awareness, fly fishing, tourism, resource protection/stabilization and international good will.” (From The America Cup Website)
